Brief Summary: This book is for a child who has gone through a natural disaster. It talks about different kinds of disasters such as earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes and fire. It gives some tips of what you can do to protect yourself in the various disasters. It then talks about feelings after a disaster and that they are normal. There is also a chapter on sleep problems that may happen after a disaster. It then gives ideas of what you can do to gain control over some of the feelings and some activities the child can do. The forward in the book states that the ideas given in the book have had extensive research and are a result of the authors working with children, parents and teachers.
Post reading activity:
Talk about the information from the book. Depending on the type of natural disaster a child has been through, look at the facts and make a plan of action for in case something happens again. Complete the activities that are listed in the book.
1 comment:
Additional activity would be to act out what to do in different natural disasters. This would give the child skills necessary to use during a crisis
